One of the oldest departments of the Government of India, serving the nation’s defence community since 1747.
Responsibilities
The Department provides payment, accounting, internal audit and financial advice for defence expenditure and receipts. Its responsibilities cover the Armed Forces and defence organisations including the Coast Guard, Border Roads Organisation, DRDO and Defence Estates.

How we are organised
The Defence Accounts Department functions under the Controller General of Defence Accounts, who reports to the Secretary (Defence Finance) in the Ministry of Defence.
